Toyobaru part two: 2014 Highlander to underpin new Tribeca - report
Subaru Tribeca
Searching for redemption
To say the Subaru Tribeca was a disaster is a bit of an understatement. The model was launched with great fanfare, but questionable styling dominated the conversation. Despite a minor facelift for 2008, the damage was already done and the crossover was relegated to being an automotive afterthought.
However, instead of giving up, Subaru is about to take another stab at the seven-seat crossover market. According to a recent report, a new Tribeca is in the works and it will be based on the next-generation Toyota Highlander.
Information is scarce, but Motor Trend is citing unnamed sources who say the new Tribeca will ride on a platform of compromises. While that sounds like a back-handed compliment, it's a necessity as the platform will have to accommodate a longitudinally-mounted boxer engine, a transverse-mounted engine, and Toyota's Hybrid Synergy Drive system.
Regardless of the complexities, we're sure the companies will have everything sorted out for the 2014 model year.
